ESI International, the leading provider of performance improvement programs in project management, contract management, business analysis and sourcing management, today announced that the company has been awarded two five-year contracts for project management and contract negotiation training by the State of Florida, Department of Management Services, in a multi-state purchasing agreement with the National Association of State Purchasing Officials (NASPO). ESI is the sole approved vendor for negotiation training and one of two preferred project management certification training providers.
Through the awarded contracts, ESI’s PMP® Exam Power Prep and Negotiation Strategies and Techniques courses will provide trainees with effective project management and contract negotiation skills. Training is available for State of Florida and NASPO member state public contracting and purchasing employees, attorneys with public purchasing or contracting responsibilities, or subject matter experts (such as information technology professionals) who may be involved in contracting activities within their areas of responsibility. The courses will be available in classrooms throughout the State of Florida as well as around the country.
The NASPO Cooperative Training for Public Purchasing Professionals Contract is a cooperative group-contracting consortium for state government departments, institutions and political subdivisions (i.e. colleges, school districts, counties, cities, etc.) for the various states. In June 2006, Florida Governor Jeb Bush signed legislation mandating the State of Florida use certified contract negotiators for negotiating contracts with a value in excess of $1 million, and a Project Management Professional (PMP®) for negotiation of contracts with a value in excess of $10 million within any state fiscal year. The purpose of the training contract is to support these mandates and enable participating states and the purchasing entities within those participating states, to join together to achieve cost effective and efficient acquisition of quality training.

Participants will also review potential “trouble spots,” use effective drills to accelerate learning, receive test-taking tips and take practice exams. ESI’s Negotiation Strategies and Techniques course covers each phase of the negotiation process, providing participants with strategies, tactics and skills that are effective in contract formation and contract administration negotiations. Participants benefit from in-class exercises that provide insight into personal negotiation style and techniques. The course uses videotaped sessions to provide immediate feedback on contracting situations where both formal and informal negotiations take place.
